AWR1843BOOST: awr1843 antenna oxidation and ghost appear in output

Part Number: AWR1843BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843, AWR6843

Hi , I have a awr1843boost board but because I store it in the wrong way its antennas oxidized. I do not recall what was the output of sensor when the antennas was good.

Now I see ghost  in output of it, first I thought it is my code but when I upload demo and watch it output I saw that ghost again.

when I remove the stationary things and some thing move in front of the sensor behind that things some object will appear it happen just the time we have movement.

the above movie and picture is related to the output of demo code of awr1843 and in the movie which I attach under this line is my output I try to track moving object and have rectangular over point of that object.

and the antenna shape and status is in the following

  • Hi,

Some oxidation on the antennae is normal and will not affect the performance of the sensor.

Is it possible that the ghost is created by multi-path reflections?

Please test in an open environment where there are no multi-path reflections.

If there is no more ghost this means that the ghost was created by multi-path environment.

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Thank you very much sure I will test it you are right I am testing it in a small room.

  • Hamid,

We look forward to your response if you have any additional follow-ups.

    Regards,

    Kyle

  • Hi , I could not test the  suggestion because of Covid 19 limitation but today I will do and will write the result. thank you

  • Hamid,

Thank you for providing us with an update. I will wait for your response and then provide feedback.

    Regards,

    Kyle

  • Hi again I'm very thank you for your replies I did test sensor in a open area and result was as Cesar predict the ghost was there but  they occurred rarely  and was perfect when the object was away from the sensor ( 2 or 3 meter) . multi-path problem first I figure  it out with adjusting CFAR threshold  or judge the point base on their strength but it was confusing so if it is very important to you be accurate and not see that ghost machine learning will be perfect or something like IMM filter for using sensor data ( not plotting them  ) for tracking your object and determine its future position. Conclusion data out of the sensor without post processing on them will not be accurate and antenna oxidation not a problem (at least in my case) but I did also ordered some aop of this chip and awr6843 because the PCB cost will be cheaper and you will not have oxidation problem about the performance I'm not share but these are the benefits.

Thank you again , thank you very very very much.
