AWR1843: External Flash memory selection

Hi Experts,

Flash Variants Supported by the mmWave Sensor are introduced by www.ti.com/lit/sprach9.
If the clock and other items meets the specification, is it OK to utilize a customer selected external Flash?

Yes, if the flash meets the requirements specified in the www.ti.com/lit/sprach9 app note and the QSPI timing spec from the datasheet are met , you can use the flash part.

Hello Vivek,

I had tried some flash like W25Q32 with QE disable. The SBL can boot successful, but APP fail.

Is it any difference while boot from SBL image and APP image?

And, is it OK to use this kind of flash with manually QE set in SBL, then jump to APP in SBL to make this kind of flash works?

Hello Wisley,

SBL works over Quad-mode for QSPI communication.

QE bit of sFlash device defines the quad mode, if that is not set then it needs to downgrade to dual or normal mode for QSPI communication.

Please edit this code snippet of SBL and rebuild to make it work with your sFlash variant.

Hello Jitendra,

is that means once the QE is not enable, then the ROM code still can read image from QSPI FLASH use dual or normal mode?

And then, in SBL code, we can initial the QSPI driver and set the QE bit manually then load the app image.

Is my understanding correct?

Yes, ROM has all those check conditions based on QE bit status but SBL doesn't have. so for that you need to do above said code change.
