MMWCAS-DSP-EVM: No output in serial console

Hello,

Can you send a screenshot of the device manager window for us to see the required COM ports?

Also, have you set the required baud rate settings in your serial term application and chosen the correct COM port? Instructions for that are documented in section 5 of the cascade user guide.

Attached the screenshot of the COM port configuration and the device manager. I've tried these settings on COM7 and COM8. No output was seen on either COM port.

Thanks for your effort here. Currently it looks good to me. 

Are both the boards i.e. MMWCAS-RF-EVM and MMWCAS-DSP-EVM connected and powered up properly? Would it be possible for you to attach a picture of your setup as well.

Can you also check if the COM ports 7 and 8 are not engaged somewhere else.

This is the top and bottom of my setup. No other programs are using the COM port. If you'll need a photo of the inner layers to help with debugging, please let me know and I'll disassemble the RF frontend to take a picture.

Do you not see power status LEDs (5V and 3.3V) in the MMWCAS-RF-EVM board turn up as soon as you supply power to the setup?  

Can you check the connection between MMWCAS-RF-EVM and MMWCAS-DSP-EVM?

Please refer to the user guide linked below to locate the position of the LEDs. In your picture, they are located on top right side.

No the power LEDs on the RF-EVM are not lighted up. All the connectors seem to be connected properly.

I'm using a 12V 4.16A power supply. Could this be an issue? If so I can try switching to a 100W benchtop power supply.

We got the radar in March this year.

mmWave_Studio_cascade_user_guide.pdf states a requirement for atleast a 12V 5A power supply. It would be good if you could try with that.

Hi, 

Thanks for pointing this out. I've done some testing on the connectors and it seems that the ground connection on the barrel jack appears to be faulty, it seems to have high resistance. 

I managed to power up the board normally by connecting 12V directly to the solder pads and also thru J11. The maximum current draw during booting was less than 1A, so I believe that my power supply should have been enough for at least the boot-up process. 

I should be able to rework/replace the barrel jack to fix the issue.
