AWR1642: Can't choose between AWR and IWR range

I understand that the AWR is for automotive and IWR is for industrial, but I see no discernable difference between the two in terms of design and capabilities. My project is a low cost collision detection/avoidance system for automobiles.

    Hi Shantanu,

    There are differences between IWR and AWR devices as given below. For Automotive applications, the AWR family is recommended:

    1. AWR1xxx devices support a wider junction temperature range, -40C to 125C. IWR versions support -40C to 105C.
    2. AWR1xxx devices are qualified for automotive applications as they are AECQ100 qualified and ASIL-B capable. This is not the case for IWR variants.
    3. Specific to the 1642, AWR1642 has 2 CAN interfaces, one of them being CAN-FD. IWR1642 only has one CAN interface (no CAN-FD).

    But am I correct in assuming that there is no difference in the functionality between IWR and AWR apart from automotive qualifications and temperature?

    Hello Nitin,
    As mentioned above CAN FD functionality is not available on IWR1642. In terms of RF alone there is no difference.
