Hi,
I am working with the AR1443EVM-010 (XAR1243 Chip) in combination with the AR1XXXEVM-012 and the TSW1400.
The TI-Software I'm using: Radar Studio Ver: ar1: 1.6.1.0 and HSDC Pro v4.50
So until now mostly everything worked just fine, but now I'm stuck trying to start a measurement using the Hardware Trigger.
So here's what I do:
About the Hardware Setup:
All three boards are connected to each other.
Additionally I connect the output of a signal generator (50ohm) to the Pins J4.9: (40PIN_SYNC_IN) and J4.4 (GROUND) of the AR1XXXEVM-012 via a 30cm coax-cable
V_pp on the signal generator is set to 3V3. The function is a square with a frequency of 1Hz.
About my software-settings:
I use the folloing settings in the AdvFrameConfig in Radar Studio.
The HSDC Pro is set just as if I was using the Software Trigger.
Using the Softwaretrigger starting a measurement form the Sensor Config everything is working just fine with these settings. When I’m trying to use the HW-Trigger, there is no reaction after any signal edge.
I was also tring to use the mmw_demo.exe in HW-Trigger mode. Also no reaction here on my signal.
Any ideas where I went wrong?
I'm looking forward for your ideas.
If you're missing any Information, please tell me!
Best regards
Konstantin
Hello Konstantin,
The RadarStudio version you are using seems to be an older version.
My suggestion is to use the download the use latest MMWAVE-SDK for the demo application and also move to latest MMWAVE-DFP .

Konstantin,
Are you able to find the files?
The files can be found in below location:
mmwave_dfp_00_07_00_04\firmware\radarss\xwr12xx_xwr14xx_radarss.bin
mmwave_dfp_00_07_00_04\firmware\masterss\xwr12xx_masterss.bin

Hi Rangu,
thanks for the reply...should have looked this up in the User Guide....sorry for that.
I'm now using the Radar Studio v1.7.4.0
Flashing the firmware was successful regarding to the script message, even so it was surprisingly fast (took less than 1 second)
I do now configure the hardwaretrigger using the SensorConfig tab in Rader Studio, which is possible in v1.7.4.0
Nevertheless the Hardwaretrigger seems not to work yet.
If this information is of any help: The revision of my chip is ES1
EDIT: I just found out that R165 is missing on my AR1443EVM 010...i'll let you know if adding r165 this solves my problem
Regards,
Konstantin
Konstantin,
Are you providing the external pulse to the SYNC_IN pin of the EVM? Also you will need to mount the R165 for the SYNC_IN to work.
The pulse duration needs less than or equal to the frame periodicity set in the frame configuration.
Also please plan to move to ES2.0 devices for latest updates and support.
Thanks,
Raghu

Hello Konstantin,
The hardware Trigger feature is supported from ES2.0 onwards.
Below are the steps for hardware trigger on ES2.0 . These are the extra settings to be done over and above the usual settings.
ar1.ChanNAdcConfig_mult and set the “CasCadeMode: 0x0001” (Multichip_Master mode).
In the next version of the DFP “ar1.ChanNAdcConfig_mult” will be taken care internally when user selects HW Trigger.
Let us know if you have any further clarifications.
Thanks,
Raghu

Hi guys, i have TSW1400EVM, MMWAVE DEVPACK and AWR1642BOOST connected together. Software triggering has been working but i still have no luck getting the hardware trigger.
I am also wondering why you guys seems to be referring to SYNC_IN signals (that doesn't seem to be on TSW1400EVM) instead of EXT_TRG_INPUT, which is an SMA connector on TSW1400EVM?
"High Speed Data Converter Pro GUI" document (slwu087d) on page 16 ("3.1.3.3 Trigger Operation") refer to this input. Having said that i still have no luck getting the hadware trigger to work (1.8V pulse).
The sequence that i did was: change Trigger Select to Hardware trigger, click Set, then Setup TSW1400, then TSW1400 ARM, then Trigger Frame, then activate my 1.8V square wave signal (multiple pulse).
Questions: How does changing Trigger Select to Hardware trigger in Radar Studio affect Trigger Option in Data Capture Option in HIgh Speed Data Converter?-which is required to be ticked for hardware triggering as per slwu087d (or do they not talking each other?)-i believe these 2 softwares talk each other when Setup TSW1400 get executed?
Am i missing anything here?
Thanks
Regards
P.S
i also have a second set of TSW1400EVM, MMWAVE DEVPACK and AWR1642BOOST and planing to connect (using SMA cables) the SYNC1(or 2,3,4) of one to EXT_TRG_INPUT, of the other as illustrated in slwu087d
