Hello,

Wehave received some components TPS629203DRLR (IC, REGULATOR STEP DOWN 17V 0.3A) From Texas Instrument through Sercel order n°4500332421

We discover a wettability issue on this component. After investigation, we have observed that the plastic package of the component covers the edge of pins and avoid a correct soldering on pin edges as requiered by IPC-A-610.

We would like to ask Texas Instrument to optimize their component encapsulation process by sparing these tab edges, which will allow better observation of the soldering quality as well as mechanical performance.

Hi,

It is not obvious that the plastic package of the component covers the edge of the pins, a bit like tin is not attached to the pin.

Ok so does it mean that you plan to improve this observation in order to avoid the plastic to migrate on the edge of the pins ?

Hi Colin,

Ok thank you, and please how can I contact a quality engineer ? This is really not easy to communicate wth TI. I was asked by Mouser to proceed as I did through the support forum but you mention it not the good way... Is there a normal/standard emai address to comminicate for quality issues ?

Hi Nicolas,

Below is our PE reply：

It’s expected signature that solder will not cover the lead toe of SOT-5X3 package. It’s due to there is no plating on the side wall of toe side, the bare copper will be oxidized along with time and not friendly for solder soak during reflow.
TI did solderability and unit shear test, the result is good even solder cannot cover lead side walls.
