MUX36S16: Thermal pad connection to VSS or GND?

Hi,

I'm planning to use MUX36S16IRTVR in my application (VDD=+10V, VSS=-5V) but the datasheet doesn't report any guidance on Thermal pad connection. In TI E2E forum I have found an indication, for MUX36S36, to connect it to VSS, but it is a different P/N with respect to MUX36S16IRTVR. Please could you clarify, and maybe also update the datasheet, as I guess this information is needed by every users.

Hi Federico,

The thermal pad may or may not, depending on the part, have instructions on what to do with the thermal pad. If there are no instructions - like with the MUX36S16 the pad can be soldered down to a pad that is left electrically floating. However it shouldn't cause harm to connect the pad electrically - if you do this it should be to the lowest potential in the system - so VSS if VSS < GND.
