MPC508: single supply

Part Number: MPC508
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MUX36S08, TMUX7208

Hi Team,

Can this device to work in single supply voltage?

If yes, any performance difference?

Also, how is digital input VIL/VIH?

Thanks!

Andrew

  • Hey Andrew,

This is an extremely old device that comes from Burr-Brown that TI bought out quite a bit back. All that to say, looks like they have an outdate naming convention of VIL/VIH on the datasheet. It's defined as VAL and VAH. The VIL here is 0.8V and VIH is 4.0V.

With regards to single supply voltage, it will work but unfortunately since this device is so old and there aren't electrical characteristics on this in the datasheet, it's not something I have readily available. Typically, you'll see an increase in on resistance and on capacitance (so slight limitations on BW as well) when using single sided operation in devices that offer dual power supply operation.
Is there a reason that the MPC508 is the being evaluated over other components? TMUX7208 can handle the supply voltages in question and has specifications listed for single sided supply that may be more beneficial to the customer. It's a newer very low leakage (On and Off) device with low leakage and low Ron. If the concern is more with keeping the capacitance low, the MUX36S08 will be a good low leakage, precision option as well.
Looking at the 1ku price on ti.com, both are also cheaper option that the MUX508A.

    Thanks,
    Rami
