What is the total power dissipation of ULN2003AIDR?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ULN2003A

What is the total power dissipation of ULN2003AIDR?

  • The power consumption of the ULN2003A itself is negligible. The actual power dissipation depends on the load current through each output, which is dropped over VCE(sat).

If you want to know how much current you can use, see figures 4 and 5.

  • We can estimate max power dissipation using the following equation:

    1. Pd, max(Power dissipation) = (Tj(junction temperature) - Ta(ambient temperature)) / [*RθJA(Junction-to-ambient thermal resistance)]

    2. We recommend to operate the device where the die junction temperature of the ULN2003A device does not exceed 125C.

    3. So putting Tj < 125C will give max power dissipation allowed.

    4. Pd(max) = (125 - TA) / RθJA , RθJA = 73 C/W for SOIC package

If max power dissipation per channel is required, this result can be divided by seven to see max power dissipation per channel

Also during normal device operation the power dissipation = (VCE(SAT)*load current(ILi)

    Best Regards,
