TS3L110: Cascaded Mux Application

Good day and we need your assistance.

We have a question regarding Ethernet Mux/Demux PN TS3L110. Customer is planning to  cascade three muxes to create a 4-1 switch so there will be two muxes in series and we are concerned about the bandwidth. Can we connect two muxes in series and have suitable bandwidth for 100Base T ethernet signal?

We read from other forum that one Muxes can do this, but it's a gigabit ethernet mux. Kindly confirm that this 100baseT Mux can also do it as well.

    So the frequency you would need to be able to pass through the mux would be in the 31.25MHz range, which is well within the capability of this multiplexer as a standalone device. Once you start cascading, there will certainly be a drop off in the bandwidth capability of the multiplexer. However, I am a bit confused on how many multiplexers you are cascading, is it 3 muxes in series or 2? With two in series, I would not think there would be any issue as you should have plenty of margin from the required 31.25MHz frequency. 3 multiplexers would be even lower, but it is hard to quantify exactly what that bandwidth would be without accounting for the layout of the multiplexers and the load they would be connected to.

    In summary, 2 multiplexers I would be comfortable saying this mux would be able to support this kind of application, with 3 in series is where I would suggest the user test out the application with their loading requirements to see if there would be any significant attenuation.
