TS3A24159: Vout absolute value issue

Part Number: TS3A24159
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS5A22362

Hi team,

My customer would like to use TS3A24159, but their application includes NC/NO = -3V when the channel is not activated. They want to know if this negative value would damage the device. I draw a picture about their application below. Please help to check. If TS3A24159 is not suitable for this application, please help to recommend another 2:1SPDT device.

Besides, is there any minimum value for the capacitance between VCC and GND?

Best Regards,

Peter

  • Hello Peter,

The TS3A24159 is not suitable for this application. The TS3A24159 has internal ESD protection diodes to prevent negative voltage spikes.  These protection diodes will be come forward biased and start sinking current when the voltage on the I/O pin is < -0.5 V which is where the abs value comes from.  It is possible your audio signals are not large enough to start turning these diodes and start clamping the voltage.

Please use the TS5A22362 as replacement for this application. The only  problem will be you will not be able to swing 3v to -3v but the chart below  says you can get close depending on your vcc.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Kameron
