TMUX1248: Using Multiplexer between INA210C and shunts.

Part Number: TMUX1248
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA210,

Hey guys,

I have to switch between two measurement ranges of a current measurement.

My current approach is to use two shunts in series and use a multiplexer to handle the needed input signal to an INA210C:

In my case, the voltage drops over the shunt that have to be multiplexed will be inside the range of 0..12mV. The datasheet of the INA210 says, that up to 10Ohms at the input terminals are ok.

Can you please verify if it's a good idea to use a multiplexer like TMUX1248 to select the input signal (shunt voltage) that is then used by a INA210C?

Thanks for your help,

Markus

  • Hello Markus,

This should be fine as the mux can pass signals 0 v to vdd  and also is low ron so it should not cause any significant voltage drop.   The op amp will put gain on the signal when the signal enters the  input.

    This design is fine

    Regards,
