TS3L501E: Analog switch and ethernet analog signal

Hello team,

I have some questions concerning TS3L501E or more generally about the use of an analog switch in order to switch an ethernet analog path from one way to the other.

If we have transformers at each end point, could the common mode voltage on the line be a problem for the standing in the middle analog switch?

    1.This device can pass any signals that range from 0 to VDD.

    2. What are the  voltages  of the signal you are trying to put through the mux

    (For example if your ethernet signal ranges  from -2.5 to +2.5  V) This device will not support the application

  • Thanks, that wasn't exactly my doubt but your answer is equally useful to me. Ethernet ports utilize transformers to provide insulation between the IC  and the communication line. I'd like to find out if there is  an existing solution to the problem of switching between an insulated Ethernet line and another. This kind of line is typical floating and not referenced to ground. I think it's impossibile to use an analog switch with not ground referenced signals. Perhaps there's some proven solutione to reference the analog Ethernet line to ground, but I don't know for now. Thank you very much

    After lookin at your latest response. Here is some extra info that might help you if I am understanding your question  correct.

    I'd like to find out if there is  an existing solution to the problem of switching between an insulated Ethernet line and another.

    I believe this is a similar question to other people have asked about this device. Check out this e2e post. You can use a mux with non ground referenced signals as long as those signals are between supply and ground of the mux.

    One final note is that as long as  the mux   voltages stay between the rails (GND to VCC) and the current and bandwidth limitations, Your system should be fine.
