Tool/software:

Hi Expert,

As knowing that SN74HC4851QDRQ1 will be EOL, my customer want to buy large quantity and store them, here are some concerns need your help to check, looking forward to your kindly reply, thanks!

1. The storage time of SN74HC4851QDRQ1 may be over 8 years but need to be used again, what testing is required to ensure reliability, which shouldn't affect normal mass production.
2. They may need to increase the storage time of SN74HC4851QDRQ1, could you please tell us some suggestions or conditions to improve storage time.

3. According to Shelf-Life Evaluation of Lead-Free Component Finishes, what's the condition to store this device up to 8 Years?

Best Regards,

Jack

  • Hey Jack,

TI doesn't really have a generic test that can guarantee any storage related issues would be caught. How their tests look and how they determine a passing unit will likely require some specific system level testing.
As for the actual longevity of the device, keeping the device stored in a very low moisture environment would be recommended.

That being said, are they not willing to switch over to a different package? Who is the customer here? I can't imagine over the next 8 years there will never be a chance to make a small modification to change the traces to fit a different package, given that it's P2P just a small pitch, it should be a pretty easy fix. Could even move them to the TMUX1308A-Q1 at that point too. Just feels like a more sustainable solution

    Thanks,
    Rami
