TMUX1204: Can TMUX1204 be used for changing I2C bus path?

Part Number: TMUX1204
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9545A

Tool/software:

Hello guys,

One of my customers is considering using TMUX1204 for changing I2C bus path with 2 pcs of this device from one I2C port of MCU to four I2C slave devices because these slave address is overlapping?

At this moment, they have the following question.
Could you please give me your reply?

Q.
Can TMUX1204 be used for changing I2C bus path like the above?
I2C clock frequency is 1MHz.

Your reply would be much appreciated.

Best regards,
Kazuya.

  • Yes, the TMUX1204 can be used for this.

(There are I²C switches like the TCA9545A, but only for 400 kHz.)

  • Hello Kazuya,

As Clemens mentioned the TMUX1204 can be used for this application. It is a 4:1 1-channel mux, with a voltage range of 1.08V to 5.5V. I2C is a 2-wire protocol, so a 4:1 mux will work. The bandwidth rating of the device is 125MHz which covers the 1MHz clock frequency speed.

For more information please feel free to check out our FAQ on I2C capable muxes.

    Thanks,

    Nir
