CD74HCT4051: Can it work at 3.3Vin?

Part Number: CD74HCT4051
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LV4051A

Tool/software:

Hi team,

This is Jayden, the data sheet of CD74HCT4051 requires a power supply voltage of 4.5~5.5V. Can it work at 3.3V (±5%)?  If so, what problems will there be and what indicator changes should I pay attention to? Many thanks.

Brs

Jayden

  • This is neither tested nor guaranteed to work at all.

I suspect that the control input switching thresholds will have much less noise margin, and that the on-resistance is similar to that of the HC at 3.3 V. But again, there is no guarantee.

  • Hi Jayden,

If your supply is 3.3V you may not be able to turn the switch on fully. Like Clemens said, it's not tested or guaranteed so we can't provide a definitive answer. SN74LV4051A may be an alternative option here.

    Thanks,
    Rami
