TMUX7234: output waveform distortion

Part Number: TMUX7234

Tool/software:

we use tmux7234 to switch signal between operation amplifier and load.

VDD = 40V,  VSS=0 ,  signal 10-35Vpp, centered at 1/2VDD

4 channels share the control signal,  EN is float.

Issues:

the chip works ok when the signal amplitude less than 15V,  the waveform will distort if the Vpp exceed 15V(no matter the load current)

what factor may cause this issue? how to solve it?

Thanks,

  • Hi,

The TMUX7234 is designed to pass signals within the supply rails which is  0V to 40V in this case.

Based on what you've mentioned, the signals in your system should always fall within the supply rails of the multiplexer.

    1. Has your team conducted an independent evaluation of this multiplexer? Specifically, have you tested your desired signal by passing it through the multiplexer when it is not connected to the operational amplifier?
    2. I am not a expert in op amps but from my research on op amps it looks as if increasing the signal amplitude can lead to signal distortion due to the inherent non-linear characteristics of a op-amp, particularly when the input signal approaches the power supply rails, causing clipping and generating harmonic distortion.
    3. Did your team do any evalutations on the op amp by itself and is that device a Ti device?

Any additional information would help here.

Please let me know what you think

  • Thanks,

We have not done  independent evalution before.

The op-amp is from TI and works in correct status,   in the last and the following picture, the red line is the output of TMUX7234, the yellow line is the output of op-amp, captured  simultaneously,  the difference is: the following picture is captured with no load, we can see the output of op-amp has no problem.

the schematic of tmux7234 is as following

Hope these information can help you to analyse the problem.

    Regards.

  • additional informatin:

OP-OUT+/- are differential signal,  the yellow line is the mux out of OP-OUT+, red line is the mux out of OP-OUT-,  the distortion is symmetric,

I also tried to cut the connection to other pins, no change.

    Regards.

  • Hi

1.Can you please tell me the frequency of the signal you are passing through the mux?

2.Also what is the rise and fall time of your signals? What is the DV/DT of your signal?

Could you tell me what is this use case? Is this for a piezzo application?

Please let me know this info and we can look into this further.

    Regards,

    Kameron

  • Hi, Kameron,

solved, the EN pin can not  be float.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Chaoyang,

    Sounds good!

The TMUX7234 does have a internal pulldown but please let me know if any other assistance is needed.

    Regards,

    Kameron
