TMUX1108: TMUX1108 noise on Sx lines

Part Number: TMUX1108
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX1208, TMUX1104

Tool/software:

Hi
we are developing a Mux system which was intended to switch a 100KHz square wave from ESP32 to 8 Channels based on the Select line.
the Mux we used for this is TMUX1108 (it is a bidirectional Mux so works on either directions)

The issue we are facing in our prototype testing is that strange Noise is getting induced on every channel even though they are not selected as per Select Lines Truth Table.

i attached the setup and the schematic of the setup we made for testing below

details of the Test Setup
1. ESP32-S3 Development Board for Controlling the select lines and Generating the 100Khz signal
2. TMUX1108 soldered onto a TSSOP-16 Breakout Board
3. connections made on Bread Board with Jumper wires
4. Logic analyser is a cheap 24Mhz 8-CH Logic analyser from Saleae

i also attached the Logic analyser output of the Channels below

To go into the deeper insights of the noise we observed
1. the noise is not the same all the time, sometimes the channels were very clean
2. we very often observed 52Hz noise even though the system is running off the Grid with an Unplugged Laptop.
3. Noise also seems to be inducing from the actual 100Khz signal we supplied to all Channels
4. if we ignore the noise, we are receiving the 100Khz signal as expected
5. the noise is persisting even if we added 10Kohm pull up resistors to the Channel lines just after the Mux
6. we observed the same issue with TMUX1208, TMUX1104

please help us with this, if the issue is with the setup or any other thing

  • Hello Surya,

Can you please attach the schematic? I don't see it attached.

Also, to make sure I understand. You see an inconsistent and different amount of noise, which sometimes can go low enough where the signal appears to be clean.
Moreover, you mentioned the noise seems to be induced from the actual input signal.

This seems to be an unpredictable noise, probably from the system overall.
Especially since you are using a breadboard and jumper wires in the setup.

I don't think this is a mux issue. If you remove the mux from the system, does the noise disappear or greatly reduced?

    Thanks,

    Nir

  • Hello Nir Gilgur,

Here is the schematic of the setup

and below are the images with Mux and Without Mux

Left side : with Mux attached in the setup    |    Right side : Without Mux in the Setup
    Channel 0 - 6 : Mux Data Lines  (image)
Channel 7 : Original Input Signal  (image)

and yes your understanding is correct, Noise is not consistent, but most of the times we observer this constant noise of 52-53Hz

From the above observation, the Noise is leaking from the Mux to all signal lines, but need your insights on it

  • Hello Surya,

    Understood, thank you for sharing.
Can you please zoom in on the noise signals? I want to check the y axis and see the amount of votlage.
Also, can you please check the noise coming from the VDD pin?

    Thanks,

    Nir
