TMUX1308: 8:1 MUX solution for use in the UART interface

Part Number: TMUX1308
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LV4051A, TMUX1208

Tool/software:

Hi Sir,

I have a project that requires an 8:1 MUX, primarily for controlling communication between the BMC's UART and eight devices.

The BMC and the eight devices are connected via a SlimSAS cable.

Currently, I am using the TMUX1308, with the circuit as shown below. However, due to the Ron issue of the TMUX1308, I am unsure if it is suitable for use in a UART interface. Please help check.

  • You can use any switch that supports the required voltages and frequencies. UARTs are slow, so you will not have bandwidth problems.

The TMUX1308 has 59 Ω; this should not matter for slow logic signals. Consider the cheaper SN74LV4051A, or, if you really care about Ron, the TMUX1208.

(SAS cables are optimized for differential signals.)
