HD3SS3220: Some questions about typical applications

Part Number: HD3SS3220

Tool/software:

Hi Teams,

The customer plans to make a USB computing power stick with a mux chip added in the middle:
1. They should be using DRP mode, right?
2. Does the USB2 interface need to include the chip code shown in the diagram? The customer's single board area is limited, and they try not to add it as much as possible. If it is necessary to add, please provide the recommended model of that chip
Thank you

  • Hello,

    1. They should be using DRP mode, right?

What is the intended application? Is it meant to be placed between a PC and an end device? Is it meant to connect to something like a notebook and provide functionality similar to a flash drive?

DRP would mean that the port can act as both a source and a device. If the device is meant for a certain role, it would be better to set it to that role.

    2. Does the USB2 interface need to include the chip code shown in the diagram? The customer's single board area is limited, and they try not to add it as much as possible. If it is necessary to add, please provide the recommended model of that chip

This specific device has two functions. One is for USB2 BC1.2 support, the other is to act as a VBUS switch. The main concern with the HD3SS3220 is that if configured as a DFP, the HD3SS3220 needs to be able to indicate when VBUS should be sent to the type-C port. It does this by connecting the ID pin of the HD3SS3220 to the EN pin of a VBUS switch, that way when the ID pin is pulled low, indicating VBUS should be sent, the VBUS switch will enable and send VBUS to the type-C connector.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
