TPS7H2201-SP: Enable pin circuit configuration

Hi,

Datasheet for the TPS7H2201-SP mentions that EN pin must not be left floating. We are using a pull down resistor and a optocoupler to drive this pin. Request you to confirm applicability of the circuit across temperature range and spread

    That is correct, since the EN pin controls the on/off of the device, it should not be left floating.

    Whether or not the circuit that will control the EN pin will be viable across the desired temperature range will be largely up to the component selection and board layout. As for the part itself, the device is characterized for operation over the free-air temperature range of–55°C to 125°C. Again, thermal management will largely be dependent on component selection and board layout.

    Let me re-phrase my question. Will a 10k resistor from the EN pin to ground ensure that the device is off for all conditions? Datasheet mentions a leakage current of max 12nA. Does the sign indicate nominal current out of the pin?

  • Hi Nandha,

    If the device EN will be low/off for all conditions, the best course of action is to connect the EN pin to GND. However, by keeping EN low permanently, the power will not be able to flow through the device.

    To determine whether EN will trigger if connected to a power source, you can see section 8.3.1 of the datasheet:

    To keep EN, the optocoupler circuit should provide less than V_IHEN(min) or 0.56V to the EN pin.
