TS3L110 for switching 10BASE-T

Hi,

We're considering use of the TS3L110 for multiplexing four wire 10BASE-T ethernet connection to two devices. Can the TS3L110 be used to switch the copper carrying the Ethernet signals prior to the RJ45 connector, or must this device be placed after the magnetics? The desired application is show below:

Any advice on this device, or others which may be more suitable would be appreciated.

I am not real familiar with 10Base-T but the TS3L110 can switch an level between 0V and 5.5V. If the levels are not being exceeded then it should work both places.

I have the same question, for my application it would be better to switch after the magnetics.

I see what Chris said, but do you know if TI have a recomendation or application note for this?

Hi James,

I see your application requirement, TS3L110 is okay to use for 10baseT or 100bseT application. I suggest to use TS3L110 before Magnetics, so the set should be like PHY Signal-->TS3L110-->Magnetics-->RJ45 Connector.

In my app i want to use TS3L110 after magnetic. Did some one test it in this configuration ?

(1x PHY -> Magnetic -> TS3L110 -> 2x RJ45)

Hi David

The TS3L110 should be able to switch any signal with a level between 0V and 5V,.The control pins will requre 5V ttl signals

Hi Chris,

I think the Ethernet signals are floating behind magnetis. Therefore I can not be sure that the voltage is in the recommended range.

hi James,
i think you are trying to automate some test case. I too tried making this circuit on general purpose board using equal length FRC cable(as we are dealing with differential lines), and guess what it works perfectly fine.

there is one issue though which i would like to address, if we introduce a LAN Switch between RJ45 connecter C and PC, we wont get any activity or connectivity on same board.(it works perfectly fine for mentioned diagram).

any suggestions for this?
