SN74CBT3257 "outputs" as "inputs"

This family's data sheets designate one side of each switch as an "input" and the other side as the "output". I understand (I think) the clamping action that limits the "output" to Vcc-1V. What's unclear to me is whether the input and output roles can be reversed, i.e. are the switches more or less bidirectional for 5V logic signals and can I drive the "output" side if necessary? I want to use the 74CBT3257 to connect an input to one of two ouputs, rather than send an output to one of two inputs.
