TS3USB221E - valide Vcc range to minimize power consumption

Hi,

There is a case that 221E always get powered in TV system and thus standby power is important. Based on datasheet, its recommended min Vcc is 2.3V.

  • Has this been confirmed okay on interoperability?
  • Looks that the D+/- would not be impacted by the Vcc but only the control pins. Can you please confirm?
  • What is active and standby power at 2.3V compare to 3.3V Vcc?

Can you advise?

+

Would this work?

Thanks, Gibson

  • Hello Gibson,

    Thank you for your questions.

    1) Can you please specifiy what you mean by interoperability?

    2) You are correct. D+ and D- would not be impacted by adjusting the Vcc, but the control pins are impacted. The data input/output voltage can swing from 0 V to 5.5 V regardless of the Vcc.

    3)

    Power = Supply Current * Supply Voltage

    Active Power (Icc = 30 uA)

    Vcc = 2.3 V :

    Power = 30 uA * 2.3 V = 69 uW

    Vcc = 3.3 V :

    Power = 30 uA * 3.3 V = 99 uW

    Standby Power (Icc = 1 uA)

    Vcc = 2.3 V :

    Power = 1 uA * 2.3 V = 2 uW

    Vcc = 3.3 V :

    Power = 1 uA * 3.3 V = 3 uW

    From the information I have received thus far, I believe this part should work. Is there a system diagram/schematic you can give me to evaluate how our part is used in the system?

    Thank you,

    Jared

  • Hi Jared,Thanks for advice.
    1) Can you please specifiy what you mean by interoperability?
    >> I was wondering interoperability if changing Vcc may imact on the common mode voltage of the highspeed output signals. Since it is not the case, I am okay with the interop.
    Is there a system diagram/schematic you can give me to evaluate how our part is used in the system?
    >> When I get further info on the implementation, I will let you know.
    Thanks, Gibson
