Need additional information for TS3USB30E USB switch IC when Vcc=0V

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3USB30E

Hello!

Here are some design questions about the TS3USB30E USB switch IC.

1. The TS3USB30E USB switch IC datasheet states the Absolute Maximum Ratings of the VI/O Signal path I/O voltage for lines D+, D- as high as 5.25V when Vсс=0V (the switch is unpowered).

But unfortunately, there is no information about the Uin max values for the D1+, D2+, D1-, D2- lines when Vсс=0V.

2. Can be applied the active (+3.3V) S or/and OE bus-switch control signals to the unpowered TS3USB30E IC?

3. Should I limit the S, OE input voltages to Vcc+0,3V by shottkys to the Vсс=0V net in the case 2.2?

4. Should I limit the S, OE input currents by resistors (without shottkys) in the case 2.2?

5. Will the TS3USB30E IC be adequately and reliably switched-off when Vсс=0 (the switch unpowered) and the S or OE input is in active state?

What will say the TS3USB30E IC designers?

I see the confusion in the datasheet.  Let me see if I can help clarify some of the way the spec is written.

    1. The TS3USB30E USB switch IC datasheet states the Absolute Maximum Ratings of the VI/O Signal path I/O voltage for lines D+, D- as high as 5.25V when Vсс=0V (the switch is unpowered).

But unfortunately, there is no information about the Vin max values for the D1+, D2+, D1-, D2- lines when Vсс=0V.

The TS3USB30E is a bidirectional passive FET switch so the Absolute Maximum Ratings of the VI/O Signal path I/O voltage for lines D+, D- as high as 5.25V will apply to both sides of the switch(D1+, D2+, D1-, D2-, D+, and D-)

    2. Can be applied the active (+3.3V) S or/and OE bus-switch control signals to the unpowered TS3USB30E IC?

The Iin control input leakage current specification shows the maximum leakage into that pin in the case where Vcc= 0V or 4.3 V and the signal on that control pin is 0V or 4.3V.  The worst case leakage would happen at Vcc = 0V and Vin = 4.3V.  You may apply the active (+3.3V) S or/and OE bus-switch control signals to the unpowered TS3USB30E IC and expect leakage <1uA into that pin.

    3. Should I limit the S, OE input voltages to Vcc+0,3V by shottkys to the Vсс=0V net in the case 2.2?

You may have up to 4.3V on the S, OE control input pins with Vcc = 0V.  If that is adequate in your system you do not need to have additional circuitry.

    4. Should I limit the S, OE input currents by resistors (without shottkys) in the case 2.2?

You may have up to 4.3V on the S, OE control input pins with Vcc = 0V.  If that is adequate in your system you do not need to have additional circuitry.

    5. Will the TS3USB30E IC be adequately and reliably switched-off when Vсс=0 (the switch unpowered) and the S or OE input is in active state?

The Ioff powered off leakage specifications states that <2uA will leak through the signal path if Vcc= 0V, the signal path sees up to 4.3V, and the control inputs see up to 3.3V.  Based on this spec the TS3USB30E IC will be adequately and reliably switched-off when Vсс=0 (the switch unpowered) and the S or OE input is in active state as no more than 2uA will be expected to pass through the switch.
