Multiplexer for balanced audio

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV135, TS5A22362

Hi,

I want to select only one of two source of balanced audio. I'm using DRV135 with +/-15vdc power supply. Could you suggest me any analog multiplexer?

Thanks

  • Samuel,

We have several audio switches available.  To help get you started in your search I would look at the TS5A22362 device which can take .   This device is capable of supporting +/- 2.75 V with <1 ohm on-state resistance and low THD.  I'm not sure what type of audio device you are driving but I would imagine this switch would sit in front of your gain stage to your speaker.

Let me know what you think.

  • Hi Adam,
Audio sources are from dynamic microphones that previously are preamplified with INA217and then are converted in balanced audio with DRV135.
Those signals should be selecting by MCU and mux. The selected audio signal is amplified by means professional audio amplifier equipment.
Additional, I want a switch or mux with high impedance state when non amplified signal is requiered

If dual source is used, Can I use signal control type TTL?

    Thanks
  • Samuel,

The TS5A22362 is a bi directional device. You can see in the datasheet that the signal path of the unselected channel is hi impedance. The parameter for this is called off state leakage (DC) and off isolation (AC).

As long as your signals voltage going through the switch do not exceed the recommended operating conditions sounds like you are good to go.

    Thank you,
    Adam
  • Adam,
Datasheet says: The input and output signal swing of the device is dependant of the supply voltage VCC.
Therefore, when audio signal is +/-2.5Vrms I must use a single 2.7VDC, Has it negative supply inside?
How Can I protect switch input for the purpose of audio signal don't exceed the recommended operating conditions?

    Thanks
  • Samuel,

Yes you are correct.  If you have an audio signal that is +/- 2.5 Vrms the supply voltage should be set to Vcc = 2.7 V DC to satisfy the recommended operating condition.  The device has a feature to handle the negative voltage without distorting the signal.
