TS3A5018: Power Dissipation Calculation

Part Number: TS3A5018

hi,

I am not able to do power dissipation of above mention part.

There is no mention of supply current(Icc) in the datasheet.

I am operating the IC at 3.3V.

The total PD=Vcc*Icc+(no. of switching gate)*Ino*Ino*Ron

is this formula correct? What will be value of Icc ?

Thanks

  • Ashu,

You are correct the total power dissipation of low power signal switches can be calculated by summing the power it takes to operate the IC (Vcc x Icc) and the power dissipated across each switch in the package Ii/o^2 x Ron.

    total power dissipation

PD = (Vcc x Icc) + [(Ii/o^2 x Ron) x the number of channels in the IC]

The current consumption of the for signal switches like the TS3A5018 can be found in the electrical specifications table.  Some datasheets label this parameter as Icc, Idd, or I+ but all are measuring the same parameter.  These parameters measure the amount of current consumed by the device for a given supply voltage.

The on state resistance (Ron) for each channel will be listed in the electrical specifications table as well.

The current passing through each channel of the switch (Ii/o) is not listed in the datasheets because these switches are passive FETs and the current will depend on the sources and loads connected to the IC signal path.  Each switch will list the maximum current allowed through the switch before the device is at risk of damage in the absolute maximum ratings table.

    Thank you,

    Adam
