CD74HC4066: Need a digitally controlled analog switch

Part Number: CD74HC4066
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS12A4514

Need a digitally controlled analog switch to switch 12 volts dc (extremely low current) from a 5 volt supply. The supply for the 74HC4066 is 2 to 6 volts. I need to switch 12 volts SPST NO . Do I need a switch operating at 12 volts to switch 12 volts? Will the 74HC4066 switch 12 volts while being driven by 5 volt supply and 5 volt digital logic? or is 12 volts too much for the 74hc4066? What would you recommend?  Thank you in advance!

  • As far as I can see, all analog switches have ESD protection diodes at the analog pins, i.e., the switched signal must not exceed VCC, or must be limited to a small current (but then the diodes would still clamp the signal).

    Consider a device like the TS12A4514 (which has a TTL-compatible control input) with VCC = 12 V.
