TS5V522C: how to design VIDEO EXCHANGE SWITCH with this IC?

Part Number: TS5V522C

Hi,

I am trying to make project with this IC "TS5V522C" but I am confused by the statement on the datasheet that says

"The TS5V522C would bypass the VGA analog signal to a destination with less distortions. DDC Channel (SCA, SCL) may require to +5Vopen drain level at the VGA connector and it may require a pull up resistor on the destination side. Active undershoot-protection circuitry on the data ports of the TS5V522C provides protection for undershoots up to -2V by sensing an undershoot event and ensuring that the switch remains in the proper off state."

In another word, I don't know how I should make a complete circuit with this IC, I need to test this before I used it. I couldn't find the solid design for it yet.

Do you have any reference design circuit for this IC so I can use and test it?

Thank you for your support

  • Mitra,

The TS5V522C is a passive FET switch and is designed to pass a signal from one side of the switch to the other.  The first couple of pages of this application note give a good introduction to passive FET switches.

The passive FET switches do not require external components to operate but a bypass capacitor is recommended on the supply pin as good practice.

The comment you reference above about DDC channel (SDA, SCL) needing pull up resistors are in reference to system requirements not the IC requirements.  It is common that the DDC channel transmitter and receiver are open drain outputs like in I2C communication.  The note is reminding you that the TS5V522C is a passive FET switch and doesn't have any internal pull ups.

The undershoot protection is stating if a negative signal up to -2V is present on an input or output that it will not pass through to the other side of the switch.

I don't have a reference circuit beyond what is in the datasheet because there isn't any external components needed for this device to operate.   If you have a circuit you would like us to review we can do that.

    Thank you,

    Adam
