TS5MP646: (TMUX646 Pin-to-pin upgrade supporting 6-GHz bandwidth available) How many TS5MP646 can be used as serial? What happens when you cascade signal switches

Part Number: TMUX646TS5MP646
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS5MP646

Hi Mux support team,

I'd like to use TS5MP646 as serial configuration. Like 'TS5MP646 - TS5MP646 - 5S5MP646...' One TS5MP646 output going to another TS5MP646 input. Would you please let me know how many TS5MP646 can be used as serial configuration?

Best regards,

  • Alice,

The TS5MP646 device is a passive FET switch and the only limit on how many you can cascade is how sensitive your transmitter and receiver are in the signal path and the data rate or bandwidth your signal chain will need to support.

Passive FET switches do not have any drive capability and are not ideal wires having parasitic resistances Rdson or Ron and capacitances Con.  Each switch you place in serial will add these parasitic values to your signal path.

You can see in the simulation below that having two TS5MP646 devices cascaded you have 2x the insertion loss (~-0.5 dB to ~1.0dB)

You can also see the bandwidth decrease with the cascaded switches from ~4GHz to ~2GHz.

    Thank you,

    Adam
