TS3A227E: Question of TS3A227E EVM

Part Number: TS3A227E

Hi Sirs,

Can we operate the TS3A227E EVM without Launchpad installed? We failed to enable TS3A227E EVM's Mic function with the following process:

1. Applied 3.3V to J1
2. Connected 4-pole cable (male-to-male) from J10 to laptop PC's 4-pole jack
3. Configured EVM's jumper setting as picture below
4. Inserted iPhone's headset to J4

Would you pls advise that if there is missing or mistake with our test procedure?

Thank you and Best regards,

Wayne Chen

  • Wayne,

The TS3A227E EVM doesn't need a Launchpad to operate.  The Launchpad is for a convenient way to read and write I2C commands to the TS3A227E.

Do you have Jumper J2 installed?  In the schematic it looks like the J2 jumper needs to be installed to connect Vcc to VDD and power the TS3A227E.  I don't think the power directions in the text are very clear.

Do you know the impedance of the microphone in the iPhone headset.  Please see this post below for more information.

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hello Adam,

Thank you for your concern, Our J2 was installed in default. Would you pls check if there is another missing or mistake with our board configurations?

    Thank you and Best regards,

  • Wayne,

It is hard to tell but it looks like you don't have the default jumper configurations installed.  Try removing J15 and J20.

Did you check the impedance of the headset you are attempting to support based on the e2e post in the thread above?  It is possible the impedance of the headset you are attempting to support is too high for the TS3A227E to detect as a mic.

Are you able to read the I2C registers to see what state the TS3A227E switch matrix is in?  Is it detecting a 3 pole or 4 pole headset?

What is the status of the /MIC_Present output pin?   Is it detecting that there is a microphone?  Or is the mic signal not passing through the switch?

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Thank you Adam, we will check it up and get you back soon. Thanks a lot...Wayne Chen
