TS5A3166: TS5A3166DCKR PROBLEM not closing in a termination resistor

Part Number: TS5A3166

Hello ,

we are using the component in object as a switch to insert a 100 ohm resistor termination in a M-LVDS system

In attached you can see the part of schematic where we use the  TS5A3166DCKR  .

We have a big problem the switch doesn't close and so the termination 100R is not enabled .

The PCB is ok ; the power voltage is ok ! ; the signal enable is high !! ; anyway the switch doesn't close .

The voltage between signal TXRX+  and  TXRX-  is 1 V  ! ( the voltage at pin 2 of TS5A3166DCKR is 0,3V and the voltage at pin 1 is 1 Volt .....)

The maximum frequency of swing signal in MLVDS is 25 MHZ .

I read the datasheet but I don't see any controindication on my use .

I'm afraid to have done a big error of type of choice of component .

Component problem number .

We habe about 16 boards with 2 component each with the same problem !

We buy components by DIGIKEY :

Please ... HELP !!

  • Alice,

The TSA3166 device recommended operating condition on the NO and COM pin (I/O path) is 0-V+ with respect to the pin 3 ground.  Are you driving a negative voltage on pin 2 or 3 with respect to ground?  This would be outside the recommended operating conditions and there will be an internal clamp diode that will start to forward bias ~ -0.5 V with respect to pin 3 ground.

Why do you want to switch in an out the 100 ohm termination resistor?

    1) What is the expect voltage on the TX/RX+ and TX/RX- nodes?

    2) how are you measuring the voltage on pin 1 and pin 2? What node are you using as your reference?

    3) do you have a scope shot of pin1,2,4, and 5?

    4) You have 2x devices observing this behavior 16 boards out of how many tested?

    5) Have you tried replacing a new device on a board observing behavior.  If you take suspect part and place it on a normal board does it cause the same behavior?

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hello Adam !!

sorry finally we have understand that the component is working very well !

It was an our measuring problem.

Thank you for your support .
