SN74CB3Q3384A: Can SN74CB3Q3384A support 1000 BASE-T switch

Part Number: SN74CB3Q3384A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3L501E

Dear TI team:

    Can SN74CB3Q3384A support 1000 BASE-T switch?

How to determine if the chip supports gigabit Ethernet switching, which parameters need to check?

Regards!

Eric

  • Eric,

When you evaluate if a switch will support a signal standard you need to look at the following:

    1) Determine the switch configuration.  How many lanes (channels) of data need to switch?  If they are differential you will need 2 channels per lane.  How many inputs and out puts do you need?

    2) Determine the voltage range.  Typically 1000Base-T I have seen 3.3 V signals

    3) Bandwidth per signal path.  We recommended choosing a switch with bandwidth 3 times the clock frequency.

This post below shows how to calculate the clock frequency or bandwidth per signal path.

One of our popular device for 1000Base-T applications is the TS3L501E.

    Thank you,

    Adam
