TIDUB00-November 2015, TI Designs - Single-Supply Strain Gauge in a Bridge Configuration Reference Design

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1232REF

In the Single-Supply Strain Gauge in a Bridge Configuration Reference Design (TIDUB00), Bridge Measurement Systems Section 5 (SLYP163) is referenced.  However, the recommendation in SLYP163 to add a differential capacitor (C7 in ADS1232REF) appears not to be followed.  In addition in TIDUB00 Appendix A.1 Electrical Schematic, there appears to be a DNP (Do Not Populate) over the differential capacitor..  Why does it appear to be conflicting information between the two documents?

  • Hi Joseph,

The differential cap in TIDUB00 is a place holder if additional filtering is needed. DNP does not mean that a capacitor cannot be populated there, it just means to not populate it for that design build. In the case of C7 in ADS1232REF the differential capacitor is used in the design and therefore was not labeled DNP. It is common to build a PCB and leave components not populated (DNP) to give you more options to work with should the design not work as expected.

    Thanks,

    Tim Claycomb
