CD4053B: Can CD4053B accept Hot Swap?

Hi team,

My customer is using 2 CD4053B to switch 1 SPI port to 2 connectors. The block diagram is as below picutre. The SPI datarate is less than 10Mbps. The connector 1 and connector 2 will be connected to some external module. But the external module will do Hot Swap with the connector 1 or 2. So my question is:

1. Can CD4053B data port endure Hot Swap with external module?

2. The Rdson of CD4053B is relatively high. Is it OK to switch the 10Mbps SPI signal?

3. CD4053B is an old device, do we have any new device to use here?

    In general, all analog switches support hot swapping (they do not care about the voltage at their I/O pins). If the switch is currently closed, the device behind the switch will see anything that happens at the connector.

    In any case, all external connections require ESD protection.

    The Ron, combined with the trace/cable/connector capacitance, will form a low-pass RC filter. For 10 Mbps, it's probably fine. If in doubt, look at an oscilloscope trace.

    Hi Wayne,

    Voltages at the analog I/O pins of all switches may change, but should remain within recommended operating conditions for best performance.

    Please see Clemens' response about ESD protection, Ron, and the search function.

    TMUX1133 is a newer device with low Ron and higher bandwidth. I have included the device comparison below:
