Non-magentic material, analogue switches/load switches that can handle positive and negative current ~1A

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3A24159, TS5A22362, TPS22925, TPS22953, TPS22963C

Hi experts:

I want to find a switch that has the following features:

1) Non-magnetic material, because it will be used in MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machine; I have bought a few TS3A24159 to test the magnetic property and it looks good. So any similar material should be okay. (as long as they don't have iron in it)

2) Can handle constant current ranging from  -1A to 1A.

*negative signaling capability; I saw TS5A22362 has this feature. but the current rating is too low.

*relatively large current rating/ low on-resistance (If not as high as 1A, it's okay for me to use more than one part (<4) and shunt them in parallel to reach a higher current rating. But I'm not sure if the parts are okay with this parallel design. e.g. 4x250mA (4 parts in parallel will enable current of 1A)

3) SPDT would be optimal, but SPST should also be okay.

Load switch? Analogue signal switch?

Thank you very much for your help in advance

Best regards,

Yixin

  • Hi Yixin,

I'm looking for a suitable part, expect an answer by tomorrow afternoon.

  • Hi Yixin,

Thanks for posting to E2E. Based on your high current requirements, I am referring your question to the power switch team. They should be able to help you soon!

    Best regards,

  • Yixin,

Your application is interesting. Our load switches can pass current in both directions if they do not have the integrated reverse current blocking feature.

In you case, I would suggest a load switch that can support bi-directional current flow but also blocks reverse current when turned OFF.

I am not sure what your voltage rating is but I would look at TPS22925 or TPS22953.

Thank you for choosing TI Power Switches in your designs.

  • Hi Shreyas,

Thanks for your reply. That is very helpful. I want to make sure that a part (e.g., TPS22963C: reverse current protection when disabled) have the same low Ron for either Vin>Vout or Vin<Vout. So that I will be able to run any value of continuous current from -3A to +3A. I'm a little worried because only max current of 3A is listed.

    Thank you very much,

    Yixin

  • Hi Yixin,

Since this device does not have reverse current blocking when enabled (ON), the Ron is the same for bidirectional current.

When OFF, reverse current flow will be blocked.
