TMUX1511: Passing Ethernet through the switch

Hi,

We are looking into using it in an application where we will pass ethernet through the device and assuming we follow all high speed layout guidelines will it be okay to do so?. The ethernet will most likely be 10base-T but could be up to 1000Base-T.   We tried initially and looked at eye diagrams and they look okay.  Has it been used in this manner before?   Is there anything I should be concerned with for using in this manner?

    HSG,

    Are you trying to switch the individual signals of the 8 ethernet signals or all 8 signals at once?

    While I haven't seen this particular chip used for ethernet, from a signal pass through perspective it definitely is feasible. A point of interest/concern would be if you're trying to switch all 8 pins of the ethernet together, it would require atleast 2 of the TMUX1511 as these are 4-channel 1:1 switches. 

    Alternatively, if your end game is to switch all the pins simultaneously, we do have a variety of switches that are base-t protocol specific, such as the TSL501E, which are specifically designed for this and may meet your needs better.
    There are inherit trade-offs between the two options such as the R-on, board complexity, and the transitioning times that may or may not be important for what you're doing but it's worth taking a look at.
