SN74LVC1G3157: SN74LVC1G3157 break before make

Part Number: SN74LVC1G3157

 Hi,

Could you help give some clarification of break before make feature of the SN74LVC1G3157?

I see that Vo is pulled to ground for time duration tD before revert to the level of input B1/B2.  Couple of questions:

  1. Is that only happen when Vs going from low to high?  What abut Vs going from high to low?
  2. What is tD?  Is that on the order of tens of nS?  Or longer?
  3. This should Vo which corresponds to node A is showing drop to gnd for period of tD.  The inputs at B1/B2 are not affected, right?

Thanks

  • Saminah,

    1. Break-before makes is a safety feature the switch provides that prevents two inputs from being connecting while switching. This will occur when the switch is changing the signal path being selected. High to low or low to high. Here's a better image to show how the break-before-make feature works.

    2. Admittedly, the notation we use is confusing since it isn't consistent. It's actually defined in the data sheet as tB-M.

    3. Yes this only affects the output of the signal. The input will remain whatever you insert into the channel. In other words, B1/B2 will not be affected.

    Hope this helps,
