10:1 MUX w/ Latch capabilities

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CD74HC4351

A customer needs to input 10 different error signals to an MCU. In addition, the error signals should be latched. They have put together 10x RS Flipflops using NAND gates. Is there a device available that can simplify this design?

Ideally, all FF can be reset with a single signal. As the outputs need to be combined into a single signal to MCU, I figured a mux might be an option.

Thanks,
Jon

  • Hi Jon,

We have 1 option for a latching multiplexer the CD74HC4351, and it is only available in a 1 channel 8:1 package and the 4352 which is a 2 channel 4:1 device. These devices are a bit older so I don’t know if they will be the best fit for the solution, however to make it work for this system you would essentially need to use 3 of the 4352’s in the following configuration:

This would act like a 16:1 multiplexer with 4 select lines with only 10 of the 16 inputs used on the first stage, and only 3 of the 8 possible inputs on the second stage.

However, other parts such as digital encoders/decoders are more likely to have a Latch Enable output, if you would like to go down that route there please look into our logic parts here.

    Best Regards,
