TS3A227E: Automatic Output Switching

Part Number: TS3A227E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3A226AE,

Hi Team,

I have a customer that is looking for a solution for an audio application. They have a product that outputs audio through both a speak or headphones through analog electronics only (i.e., no microcontroller/processor involved). They would like to use an unswitched 4 conductor 3.5 mm headphone jack (I have example). However, there has been a difficulty figuring out the best way to automatically switch the speaker off when the headphones are plugged in.

Would this IC detection switch (TS3A227ERVAR) be a good fit?

Best,
Dajon McGill

  • Hi Dajon,

The audio jack detection switch TS3A227E will certainly detect the presence & configuration of a 4-pole headphone jack and route the microphone signal accordingly. One thing I would like to point out is that this specific device is commonly controlled by a I2C digital interface for flexible design adaptability. If there is no microcontroller or processor in your system, I would recommend using TS3A226AE audio detection switch (from the same family) which has a simpler control scheme.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Best regards,
    Kate
