TS3A226AE: Can the pin TIP be disconnected

Part Number: TS3A226AE

Hi team,

Can the pin TIP of TS3A226AE be disconnected, because the result of customer experiment is that the earphone can be recognized by inserting slowly if the TIP is disconnected. If the TIP is connected, the headset will not be recognized in the case of slow insertion. If it can not be disconnected, is there any way to solve the problem that slow insertion cannot be recognized?

  • Amy,

The TIP is used of the TS3A226AE is used to compare the resistance between the tip and Ring2 and the resistance between the TIP pin and sleeve. Depending on the resistance it will determine whether it's 3 pole, 4 pole or 4 pole OMTP.

So TIP should be connected for it to work. I'm wondering how they got it to work without TIP.

The TS3A226AE does have a delay between the trigger detection and the starting of the detection sequence to help minimize this slow plug insertion issue.

Although, what we've seen as the best method to prevent the slow plug insertion issue is actually changing the audio jack itself. If you look at the pic below, the recommended jack has the trigger pin further inside jack, closer to the TIP pin. This helps ensure that the plug is fully inserted before the detection sequence begins.

    Thanks,
    Rami
