SN74LV4051A: Digital input

Part Number: SN74LV4051A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX1308

Hi team,

My customer is considering to use the SN74LV4051A . They intend to input digital logic signal to this device.

Does this device normally operate as an analog switch even with a signal of about 100uA? Is there a minimum operating current?

Regards,

Yamaguchi

  • An analog switch works without problem with digital signals.

A closed switch behaves essentially like a resistor (see Ron). So if the current is very small, the voltage drop over the switch is very small.

  • Hi Yamaguchi,

TI's analog switches and multiplexers are passive devices that support analog and digital signals, as long as recommended operating conditions are met and absolute maximum ratings are not exceeded.

Additionally, I recommend taking a look at one of our newer 8:1 muxes, such as TMUX1308, which comes in a small new package and offers upgraded features such as 1.8V logic compatibility, break-before-make, and fail-safe logic.

    Best regards,
    Kate
