Can't Import Matrix GUI into CCS 5 - No Qt Import Option

Guru 10685 points

Hi,

I'm following this guide: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/How_to_Import_Matrix_GUI_into_CCSv5 in order to import the Matrix GUI application into CCS. I'm stumped at the first hurdle as it says that I must select File->Import->Qt->Qt project but I don't have a Qt sub section! Please can someone help me?!

  • Ralph:

Which TI processor?  Can you give me the link where you obtained CCSv5?  It it sometimes included on the SD Card

that you received with the EVM.    It is also planned to have it downloadable from ti.com, but I don't see it there yet.

There is a special CCSv5 for Linux that includes plug-ins including the Qt integration.  The tarball has this name:

"CCS_5.0.1.00026_Sitara_ARM.tar.gz"   If you obtained CCSv5 directly from the TI SDO website, you will not get

    the plug-ins.

  • Hi,

this is for the C6A8168 Integra processor. I downloaded version 5.1 build "M4 5.1.0.04001" from here: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Category:Code_Composer_Studio_v5.

So you are saying I cannot use the latest CCS with Qt integration and instead I must use the older version that came on the SD card with the EVM (5.0.0.00095)?

If this is so, this will make life so much more complicated than it could have been if the plugins were put in the latest downloadable CCS; I'll need to uninstall the most recent version and install the old version that came on the SD card. What do you recommend I do - I was hoping I could use the latest and greatest CCS instead of an old one?

    Thanks,
    Ralph

  • Ralph:

You can get the Qt Integration plug-in here:

    http://qt.nokia.com/developer/eclipse-integration  Choose Linux (x86 32-bit)

if your CCSv5 is installed at ~/tools/ccsv5, for example, and you downloaded the above to

~/Downloads, you would untar it like this:

    cd ~/tools/ccsv5

    sudo tar xzf ~/Downloads/qt-eclipse-integration-linux.x86-<version>.tar.gz

After that the plug-in would be placed in here:

    ~/tools/ccsv5/eclipse/dropins/qt/eclipse/plugins/

And it will be available the next tiime you start CCS (with a new workspace).

Alternately, it may be much faster to uninstall the CCSv5 you have and get this one:

    http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/am_bu/sdk/AM37xSDK/latest/index_FDS.html

    CCS-5.0.1.00026-Sitara-ARM.tar.gz

    README.ccs

This one has Qt Integration plug-in and sveral others pre-installed.

  • Hi,

thanks for the information. Are you saying that I can only debug the Matrix GUI application on Linux host?

If so, is that because the target is Linux too? I'm not too hot on CCS/Qt/DSP debugging.

Am I right in thinking that if I have an ARM Linux program that uses a DSP algorithm that I've created in CCS and built into a codec server running on the target, I can only debug the DSP side using CCS on Windows? In that situation would I have to use Linux host to debug both ARM and DSP sides of the algorithm?

I have run "sudo tar xzf ~/Downloads/qt-eclipse-integration-linux.x86-<version>.tar.gz" to extract the downloaded file into in the following folders:

    • /usr/local/CCSv5/ccsv5
    • /usr/local/CCSv5/ccsv5/eclipse/dropins/dvt
    • /usr/local/CCSv5/ccsv5/eclipse/dropins/qt (had to create this directory first)

but having done this, deleting my ccs workspace folder and restarting CCS doesn't cause the Qt plugin to be found (i.e. File->import does not have a new Qt item present).I tried all 3 folders because I wasn't sure which one was correct; all had eclipse/plugins directories present within them.

The plugin gets extracted to eclipse/plugins relative to the directory where you untar it by the way. Any ideas why it's not being picked up?

    Thanks,
    Ralph

  • Ralph:

My response was based on the attached readme file that explains how to untar the Qt Integration.  This particular plug-in

is not available thru the Eclipse Software Update facility.

There are differing CCS requirements with Integra DSP+ARM compared with Sitara ARM.

With Integra they are recommending to use the most up-to-date CCSv5 to get full support for the newest silicon, and it is assumed that often users will be using a licenced version of CCS and a high-speed emulator.  The DM816x EZSDK download page has a CCSv5 link which goes here:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Category:Code_Composer_Studio_v5

There you would find CCS v5.0.2   CCSv5.0.3 is coming soon which includes some DM816x configuration files that are missing in v5.0.2.

The User Guide you should be using with that is named "C6A816x_AM389x_EZ_Software_Developers_Guide.pdf" and is located in the

docs folder of the EZSDK installation.   The CCSv5.1.x series are pre-production tools based on a pre-release of Eclipse Indigo.

With Sitara ARM (no DSP), most customers are working without an emulator and we provide user guide docs that describe

using GDB server to debug Linux applications and we provide several pre-installed plug-ins with CCSv5.  The User Guide you

referenced (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM37x_EVM_Software_Developer%27s_Guide) is meant for the Sitara ARM SDKs.

  • Hi,

I followed the instructions in the file you attached in order to install the plugin. I am using an Integra DDR2 board with XDS560v2 emulator and CCS 5.1.

I'm confused; where did I say I used the Sitara user guide? I'm using all the documentation in the EZSDK so I don't know why you thought that.

I'm still in a state of not being able to import Matrix GUI into CCS. Are you saying that I should be using CCS 5.0x instead of 5.1x?

    Thanks,

    Ralph

  • Ralph:

CCS v5.1 is a pre-production tool.  We have not validated the Qt Integration plug-in with CCS v5.1.

You had the following link in your post:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/How_to_Import_Matrix_GUI_into_CCSv5

That is part of the Sitara ARM SDK SW DEV Guide (but there may be links to it from other places).

It assumes the Qt Integration plug-in has been installed.

  • Okay, I'll install CCS 5.0x and see how it goes.

    Thanks,
    Ralph

  • It worked on CCS 5.0x.
