CCS 10.3.1 - Error communicating with cloud agent

Hello,

I have some trouble with Resource Explorer in CCS. I want to import an example design into my ccs workspace, but it's failing with the import.

Error Message:

The error message states "Error communicating with cloud agent"

My basic setup is:

- Windows 10

- CCS 10.3.1.00003

- Launchxl- CC1352R1

I have gone through the troubleshooting page on:

https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/ti_cloud_agent.html#Troubleshooting

I started with downloading "Ticloudagent__2.exe" from https://dev.ti.com/download

I started testing with a browser:

Switched logging on according to the troubleshooting page:

C:\Users\[your ID]\TICloudAgent\ticloudagent.bat

1) Firefox Version 89

Extension seemed to be installed ok

But it does not work.

2) Chrome Version 91

Extension seemed to be installed ok. And it worked:

Please find attached the log files for firefoy anf chrome.

Interim result:

It's working with chrome.

Then switching to CCS

with log enabled in bat file in [CCS INSTALL DIR]\ccs\ccs_base\cloudagent\ticloudagent.bat

Resource ecxplorer is failling with

when running CCS and Ressource explorer (and cloud agent from Resource explorer) i see in the logs:
from C:\temp\my.log --> ccs_my.log

---ARGS--- not_chrome   
---NOT_CHROME---

And it did not work. The "not_chrome" version did not work either when running the test in a normal webbrowser.

My questions:

1) it looks like there are several instances of TiCloudAgent on my computer.
With the installation of Ticloudagent__2.exe i get all the stuff in

C:\Users\USER_ID\TICloudAgent

2) but CCS seems to use TiCloud agent stuff from:

[CCS INSTALL DIR]\ccs\ccs_base\cloudagent\

3) can i switch the webengine of CCS/eclipse to chrome or sth?

Main Issue is: I need some help on importing examples via resource explorer.

    Hello,

    It appears the auto-detect is failing in Firefox and the CCS browser (jxbrowser). However, you should not need a target to import an example from CCS Resource Explorer to your workspace. If you disconnect the physical connection (USB cable), you should not see the ticloudagent errors. 

    As for ticloudagent issues, I see the same issue on another PC with FF 89.1. On this machine I have FF 78.11esr and it works fine. There must be some issue with a recent FF update. But it works fine in CCS Resource Explorer (on both machines). We will need to investigate this further.

    I found the issue with FF on that system. My privacy settings were too high (I never have FF remember any history). Hence FF is considered to be in private mode. Hence I had to reinstall the ticloudagent bridge browser extension and make sure I have the option to enable when in private mode enabled. Depending on your privacy settings, you may want to check this.

    I switched off privacy settings. Reinstalled ticloudagent, and added option "enable when in private mode". 

    This doesn't resolve my issue. Ti Cloud agent still not working with FF.

    my main use case is to use resource explorer in CCS. I need to import example project from simple link SDK into CCS workspace.

    However, with CCS Browser (jxbrowser), the Import button on a selected project gives me "Error communicating with cloud agent"

    Disconnecting the physical connection does not change anything.

    How do I get an example project into my ccs workspace? Are there any other ways like downloading a zip?

    You can even skip step 1 (connect a launchpad to the computer). You do not need a connected target to import an example project from the SDK.

    Ehm, that's the same issue with the cloud agent.

    When navigating in Resource explorer (in CCS) to an example project and selecting "Import to CCS IDE" 

    then it seemed to use an "cloud agent"-App.

    hmmm... I'm not sure what is happening. There should be no cloud agent dependency at this stage. I even uninstalled the agent and then tried importing the same example. It imported fine.

    I am escalating to the Resource Explorer experts. I will pass on any information to you as I get it.

    Regarding the cloud agent issue in CCS, I am wrong, there actually is some dependency. However you should not be getting that error since the dependency is on CCS cloud agent, which should come with CCS. 

    One thing to try is kill any node processes runnning on the machine. It’s possible there’s an old cloudagent running on the machine which is causing issues. i.e go to task manager and kill any “node.exe” processes.

    Once CCS has started, let's call it idle mode, there are no "Node.exe" processes running.

    Actually I would expect a Node.exe-subprocess of CCS.

    However, I could observe a strange behaviour during start-up of CCS. There are  some node.exe-subprocess (6). But they all get closed or killed when startup has finished.

    I modified ticloudagent.bat to print out debug info.
    From: [CCS INSTALL DIR]\ccs\ccs_base\cloudagent\ticloudagent.bat.

    I did a cross check in a plain windows 10 virtual machine and installled CCS 10.3.

    And there is a running Node.exe-subprocess of CCS.
    And Resource Explorer is working fine. I was able to install an SDK via resource explorer.

    Engineering as been analyzing the logs. One suspicion is that there may be some security software running on your system that is blocking websockets from being opened. Would it be possible to temporarily disable any such software as a test, or to have ccstudio.exe added to a list of exceptions?

    Also please provide your Eclipse error log in <WORKSPACE FOLDER>/.metadata/.log

    In the reference-log-file of my VM I can see sth like:

    at com.ti.cloudagent.communication.Socket.<init>(Socket.java:146)

    which sounds like the websockets you're talkingg about.

    However, In the logs of my normal machine (2_startup_switched_off_firewall.log) I see lot's of Exceptions like:

    org.json.JSONException: A JSONObject text must begin with '{' at 1 [character 2 line 1]

    Thank for the additional information. We are still investigating. 

    Were you able to use the workaround to manually import the example outside of Resource Explorer?

    Can you please open a console, cd to C:\ti\ccs1031\ccs\ccs_base\cloudagent\ and then run "ticloudagent.bat not_chrome" and send us the output?  It should look something like this:

    Not with a first try. But now I was able to manually import an example and compile it. Good news.

    I used example: uartecho

    And i found the issue why it didn't compile rigth out ouf the box:

    The issue for compilation failure was:
    I have a custom startup file for cmd.exe, I call it alias.cmd (it sets some paths and some alias' with doskey).
    This custom startup file prints a hello message when cmd.exe is firing up.

    plain cmd.exe startup looks like this:

    This is definitly wrong.
    I traced this down to the Makefile variable $(GEN_MISC_FILES__QUOTED)

    Since we are leaving the Resource Explorer and Cloudagent Issue, I think it's better to open a separate topic.

    Actually, this likely explains why cloud agent is not working either.  CCS actually runs the ticloudagent.bat file using "cmd /c ticloudagent.bat not_chrome" and that will pick up your messages.  The code expects only the output of the .bat file, and not the additional output, and it explains why the exceptions are saying that a { was not seen.

    I'll file a ticket to allow for cmd startup script output, but at least we know what the issue is.

    Do you need some additional information? The cmd.exe-startup file issue also kicks in when I try to compile or clean a project. The Makefile also assembles a file list via cmd.exe.
    The variable $(GEN_MISC_FILES__QUOTED) looks like:

    If someone comes around, I had to disable the key "AutoRun" in
