"Flushing content description cache" popup after major CCS4 BSOD related to USB plug/unplug

CCS4 produces an error dialog at each startup:

"Flushing content description cache.
Could not read metadata for:
C:\Users\user\Documents\workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core
.resources\.root\.indexes\properties.index.  Unexpected version: 0.

              [ OK ]                     [ Details  >> ](inactive)

QUESTION: What's the repair for the problem causing this dialog?  No crashes happened under any circumstances prior to this event.  I'm pretty sure this is related to the usb jacking, and the ICDI driver installation happening while CCS4 was running.  So now that that happened, should I just re-install CCS4?

This began after two USB connect/disconnects, USB driver installation, and more USB cable moves.

CCS4 hung while attempting to start a debug session, then the whole system blue screened, and shut down.

Details:
* WIth CCS4 running, I unplugged USB from a working DK-LM3S9B96 ICDI port,
then plugged into an EKK-LM3S9B90 ICDI.  The system installed drivers, then indicated success.
* Swapped the USB cable back to the DK, to perform a download.
CCS4 was unable to connect to the target.
* Tried to quit CCS4.
It popped up a dialog, "Attempting to disconnect from target",
with the "Cancel" button grayed out, and the window close box non-functional.
* Finally aborted the eclipse task tree using Process Explorer.
* Next time I started CCS4, the windows were in odd places, and it appeared to start TWO instances of CCS4, then my system BSOD and shut down.

Now when starting CCS4, the same dialog appears each time.

Worse, make is not not functioning correctly.  I must manually build any edited source for it to be included in a binary.

Performing a normal application exit doesn't seem to prevent the recurrence of the dialog popup.

CCS v 4.1.2.00027, very latest Java, WIndows Vista

Thanks.

  • Lex,

Instead of a reinstall I would try cleaning the workspace by changing the CCS desktop shortcut to add a -clean after eclipse.exe.  You could also try creating a new workspace to see if that helps.

    Regards,

    John

  • Thanks, I performed an install/"Repair installation" which fixed the issue.

  • Thanks,

the -clean worked for me (I had same problem after a BSD crash, and I wasn't even plugging/unplugging USB devices).

Didn't get it to work exactly as described. When I tried adding -clean to the shortcut Windows 7 complained

In stead of adding -clean to the shortcut, I started eclipse.exe from the run command (now called search programs and files) and added the -clean there.
