Code Composer Recommended McAfee Configuration for Improved Performance

Hi - we have a major performance issue with Code Composer 11 (and earlier) on our Windows 10 based systems with McAfee Endpoint Security 10.7 installed. In short, it is taking over 20 minutes for CC to load. In an 'off-grid' Linux system, it takes a few seconds.

McAfee give some guidance on their website https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB58727 but this is deemed to be insufficient by our IT group.

Does TI have any specific guidance on how to configure AV products such as McAfee to work with Code Composer.

Thanks in advance, Steve

  • Steve,

Based on the McAfee knowledge center page it describes how they scan inside .jar files.  CCS is a Java-based application and loads many Jar files when it starts up.  Jar files are archives that contain the Java code and resources that the application requires.  If McAfee is scanning inside of every one of those it is going to really slow things down or even cause the application to fail to load.  The McAfee page describes how to disable this behavior.  Do you know what more your IT team is looking for?

    Regards,

    John

  • Hi John,

I think a note from TI saying "TI recommends disable scanning of JAR files in the Code Composer installation folder and sub-folders" would do it.

I'm sure there's a Dilbert on this somewhere.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  • Steve,

    Fair enough:

TI recommends disabling of scanning of JAR files in the Code Composer Studio installation folder and sub-folders.  Such scans will greatly impact the performance of the application and may in some cases lead to improper operation.

    John
