CCS JLink vs Stellaris

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SEGGER

Is there any benefit to using the Stellaris debugger (using the one on a TM4C129EXL) vs a Segger JLink in CCS when debugging/developing on our board (not a dev board)?

  • Hi,

The Stellaris debugger you are referring to is the ICDI debug probe that is integrated to the LauchPad board. It is a low cost debug probe for the EVM or LaunchPad board. ICDI is not sold separately. However, it is possible for you to use ICDI on the LaunchPad to "debug out" another board with blue wires. See section 4.8 https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spma075.

With that said, I strongly suggest you obtain a debug probe to debug your systems. You can use various XDS debug probes like XDS100, XDS110, XDS200 or Segger Jlink which are supported by CCS. I believe XDS are cheaper than Jlink. You need to evaluate on your own which is the best option considering performance vs cost.
