CCSv5.1.0M3.1 A previous installation has been detected

I got the following error dialog when I tried to install CCS 5.1.0M3.1:

I don't understand why I got that error.  The new installation is located in a unique folder (C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\ccsv5.1.0M3.1\).  After clicking OK the installation continued.  It seemed like things installed ok.  However, now when I try to setup a target configuration I do not have any Blackhawk drivers:

Are these two things related?

Brad

  • Brad,

Due to a bug found in version 5.1.0.03000, the version 5.1.0.03001 you are installing is supposed to be a complete replacement to the other one, therefore the alert. In other words, version 5.1.0.03000 should not be used anymore.

However I don't know why the Blackhawk connections disappeared from 5.1.0.03001. Can you compare the contents of the directories below and see if you find any differences?

    • <CCS_INSTALL_DIR>\ccsv5\ccs_base_5.1.0.03000\common\targetdb\connections
    • <CCS_INSTALL_DIR>\ccsv5\ccs_base_5.1.0.03001\common\targetdb\connections

I guess the BlackHawk installer did not run correctly since its version may be identical to the already installed one. The file <TI_CCSv5_install.log> may give some clue:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallJammer Registry\ccsv5\DF98E52A-EF99-44CD-87FE-983EC4F3E105 (maybe the id changes per installation - I don't know).

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • I just noticed that the Blackhawk installer is bh_emupack_setup_5.1.0.003.exe.  That said, I think the error message I reported in my inital post was coming from the Blackhawk installer specifically (i.e. the version was referring to BH, not CCS).  This seems like a problem, i.e. you cannot do 2 parallel installs of CCS 5.1 with the same BH driver version.  Have you seen this problem?  I would think you guys would have a lot of CCS installations on your PCs!

  • Brad,

The behaviour in your system is very strange indeed and the only thing I can imagine is the BlackHawk installer fails if trying to install the exact same version.

As you can imagine I have multiple (10+) versions installed in my PC - most of them in directories other than C:\Program Files. However I don't have the same version installed twice with different parameters - that would probably trigger the installation failure.

Does your system still have 5.1M3 installed? If so, I would suggest uninstalling it and reinstalling 5.1M3.1 or M4. I just installed 5.1M4 in parallel with M3.1 and it did not complain at all.

Are there any logs in C:\Program Files\InstallJammer Registry\ccsv5 that shed some additional light to why the Blackhawk installer did not "like" your system? :)

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • FYI, I tried running the Blackhawk installer separately from the CCS "master installer" and I see the same error message as I posted originally.  That confirms that this message for sure came from Blackhawk.  I sent an email to Blackhawk on this issue.  The guy that does the GUI is out today, but one of the other BH apps guys was going to talk to him about adding an "override" option or something along those lines so that it would be possible to install multiple times.
