Windows 11 Pro Insider, CCS11, XDS110 Driver is not getting installed

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1

Hi TI Forum Team,

We are trying to run SimpleLink Central project in LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 DevKit. When we connected USB of LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 to our Windows11 Pro Insider PC,

We see that XDS110 is not recognized in Device Manager as shown in below figure-1:

We tried to install driver manually by pointing drivers in C:\ti\ccs1100\ccs\ccs_base\emulation\windows\xds110_drivers folder and getting following error:

In C:\Windows\INF folder we see in setupapi.dev file following ERROR:

We already imported certificates into MMC as per follwoing:

The TI certificate is successfully imported into both Trusted Root Certification Authorities and Third-Party Root Certification Authorities as shown above.

1) Still we get XDS110 Driver is NOT installed. The Windows is throwing error that it found drivers at C:\ti\ccs100, but encountered certificate error while installing.

2) Please help us to resolve this issue.

3) We are looking for seamless XD110 driver installation & troubleshooting part of CCS11 SW installation for LAUNCHXL devkit so that we can focus Develop and Debug apps on devkits instead of struggling with many manual installation steps which are time consuming.

Best regards, A Prabhakar

  • Prabhakar,

If it is an issue with the way the driver is signed then It is going to be in the new year before our expert can look at this.

One thing to note is that the first CCS version to support Windows 11 is CCSv11.1.0.  I would suggest giving that a try.  https://www.ti.com/tool/download/CCSTUDIO

CCSv11.1 was validated on Windows 11 and no issues were reported with the XDS110 driver.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hi John, Thanks for update.

We installed CCSv11.1.0 and NOT resolved. We are still getting error that Windows found drivers at C:\ti\ccs1110, but encountered certificate error while installing.

    1) We see that TI certificate expiry date is 12-10-2020. Is it fine?.

    2) Please help us from where to select and how to import TI certificates through MMC command panel into both Trusted Root Certification Authorities and Third-Party Root Certification Authorities folders.

    Best regards, A Prabhakar

  • A Prabhakar,

Unfortunately, I am going to need help from our driver expert on this one.  They will be back on Jan 4th.

    Regards,

    John

  • Prabhakar,

You mentioned "insider" in the title.  Are you running a preview release of Windows 11 or the official release version?  We are not seeing this issue on our Windows 11 machines.  However online there are references to an issue with the preview versions of Windows 11 that are not reported in the official release.

  • Hi John, Yes, we are using preview release of Windows 11 Pro and its get updated on our machine every time automatically.

    1. We can change to Linux machine and proceed.

    2. But for Windows 11 either preview or official, we see other embedded IDEs like Cube IDEs works as expected in Debug mode via USB attached kit. Any how, we need some clue to fix. Or we have to wait for next Windows 11 release and recheck.

     Best regards, A Prabhakar

  • Regarding:  (1) We see that TI certificate expiry date is 12-10-2020. Is it fine?.

The certificate expiry date should not be an issue.  The driver was signed with a timestamp from a trusted server an this ensures the signature remains valid even after the original certificate expires.

In addition to the link JohnS provided, the error you are encountering sounds a lot like the discussion here: https://community.osr.com/discussion/293115/windows-11-and-alternative-driver-installation-method-in-libwdi

I haven't been able to find any information on why this may be happening with the Windows 11 insider builds. If you are unable to switch to the released version of Windows 11 this may be a case where we need to wait for additional updates from Microsoft.

  • Hi Andy, Thanks for your update.

    1. We tried in Linux machine and its working fine. We will continue with this machine now.

    2. We will wait for next Windows 11 release and recheck.

In case, if you want to troubleshoot this issue, we are open for a call and share our PC screen via Anydesk/Teamviewer if it is helpful to your team.

    Best regards, A Prabhakar
