XDCtools error when opening a .cfg file with XGCONF

Hello Bill,

I'm unfamiliar with this error. I gave it a try on my WIndows 10 PC using the same versions of CCS, XDCtools, and SDK. The cfg file opened fine in the XGCONF editor. Whic host OS are you running?

Apologies for a late thank you and reply. Thanks for taking the time to perform a trial run on your system. I'm running the latest CCS on the latest macOS Monterey. I hadn't thought to (and would have preferred not to have to) attempting the same test on Windows, but I run a virtual Windows 7 64-bit machine and will see what happens. This assuming CCS 11 runs on Windows 7.

XDCTools does not work by default on macOS monterey.  The issue is usually first seen when doing a build as it will fail.  There is a workaround for that in that you can replace the gmake inside xdctools.  It is worth trying to see if that helps here as well.

For me what I did is copy the gmake from /ccs/utils/bin to /xdctools_3_62_01_16_core

I don't typically use XGConf but I just tried opening the .cfg in one of my examples and it opened ok (other than looking bad in dark mode).  I am going to do a fresh install of CCSv11.1 and see if I can reproduce the issue before applying the gmake workaround.

There is a bug filed for the XDCTools issue: EXT_EP-10721

Most software packages are moving away from using XDCTools.  The CC13xx/26xx SDK includes a couple of different versions of TI-RTOS.  The newer ones for TIRTOS7 do not use XDCTools.

Off-topic somewhat, but I'm setting up a new project and wanted to use the latest/future targeted tools so I specified TI-RTOS7 and TI Clang. No dependency on a separate build project "tirtos_builds_cc13x2x7_cc26x2x7_release_ccs", and thus it appears they have indeed dropped XCDTools. Not being an experienced TI-RTOS user (yet), are the requisite code or APIs now provided directly by the SDK and not through XCDTools calls? I.e., locations such as:

/Applications/TI/simplelink_cc13xx_cc26xx_sdk_5_30_01_01/kernel/tirtos7/packages

/Applications/TI/simplelink_cc13xx_cc26xx_sdk_5_30_01_01/source/ti

etc.

I'll be reviewing the many TI examples to understand how it all fits together, and have even undertaken the Embedded Advantage "CC1352-Getting Started with TI-RTOS" course (which has not evolved to use TI-RTOS7 yet so it still references XDC). All this is not a hurdle for me since the example project I'm building on now, "pwmled2_LP_CC2652R7_tirtos7_ticlang", seems to build and run just fine under macOS Monterey sans any XDC .cfg file or product installation within the project. Makes my cry for help with XDC on macOS Monterey moot and I perhaps wasted yours and others time (though I learned stuff). Hope I can gain more CCS experience and contribute in the future.

I am not much of an expert on TI-RTOS.  The SimpleLink team would be better able to assist.  For TI-RTOS questions it would be best to create a new thread and if you select your device as CC13xx or CC26xx it will go to them.

The SimpleLInk Academy is also really good for getting up to speed on concepts.  This I believe is also still using the older TI-RTOS but the concepts should all be applicable.
